摘要 |
An epoxy resin containing more than one epoxy group per molecule is cured with a curing agent comprising a polyamine derivative of a long chain fatty acid, an adduct of an amine and an epoxidized oil or alkene or a condensation product of a lower aliphatic polyamine and a dimerized or trimerized drying oil fatty acid, in the presence of a compound containing at least one hydroxyl group attached to a substituted or unsubstituted benzene nucleus, said curing agent having a molecular weight of at least 300, containing primary and/or secondary amino groups and at least three hydrogen atoms per molecule bound to amino nitrogen atoms. Specified epoxy resins are those derived from bis-phenol or glycerol. The compositions may also contain liquid reactive diluents containing one or more epoxy groups per molecule, e.g. 1, 2-butene oxide, diglycidyl ether and glycidyl ethers of monohydric alcohols or phenols, e.g. n-butyl glycidyl ether or certain specified aliphatic polyamines. Plasticizers, e.g. octyl phthalate and solvents e.g. xylene may be present in the compositions. Examples (1) to (6) describe the curing of an epoxy resin made from 2, 21-bis (4-hydroxyphenol) propane and epichlorohydrin with an amino polyamide or a polyamino derivative of a long chained ester in the presence of phenol, phenyl glycidyl ether also being present in the reaction mixture of Example 1. In Examples (7) and (8) a polyglycidyl ether of bis-phenol, an amino polyamide, diethylene triamine, phenol, dioctyl phthalate and n-butyl glycidyl ether are mixed, the mixture being applied to a joint in a polyvinyl chloride coated electric cable and cured to form a sleeve. In Example (9) a polyglycidyl ether of bis-phenol is cured by reaction with a fatty acid polyamine adduct in the presence of phenol or p-cresol. |
