A device for applying staples to repair tears in belts comprises a guide member for one or more staples connected to an anvil by a member passing through the tear. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, an elongated plate 1 has transverse slots 2 for the guidance of staples 3 and is secured to an anvil plate 8 on the lower side of the belt T by narrow links 4 passing through the tear D and secured by nuts 5. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, an arm 9 is rockably mounted on a base-plate 11 and carries a staple magazine 16 arranged to feed staples 3 to a staple driving ram 12. The base-plate 11 is provided with a narrow lug 13, passing through the tear, to which lug is detachably secured an anvil 14 having grooves 15 to deform the legs of the staples. In other embodiments the ram and anvil are moved together by pliers-like movements and provision is made for drawing the edges of the tear together by toothed segments pivoted on the base member.</p> |
