Solid adipic acid is purified from monocarboxylic acid by contacting with from 0.05 to 1 part by weight of water, methanol, ethanol, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, or an ether with up to six carbon atoms and boiling in a range from room temperature to above the B.P. of the monocarboxylic acid, and heating to drive off the monocarboxylic acid and the added compound. Examples describe the purification of adipic acid prepared by the oxidation of cycolhexane and crystallized from acetic acid or other saturated monocarboxylic (2-6 C) acids.
|
