<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide portable electronic equipment for detecting forward/reverse circling operations for a plurality of sensor elements which are arranged circularly and of which the contact is detected, for easily coping with a variety of applications and for being excellent in versatility. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The equipment includes the plurality of sensor elements (L1-L4, R1-R4) which are arranged circularly and of which the contact is detected; and a control unit 110 which monitors outputs from the plurality of sensor elements and executes control on the basis of changes in the sensor elements of which the contact is detected. The control unit 110 can perform prescribed control by detecting a prescribed circling including forward/reverse circling in which first direction circling where a plurality of sensor elements detect in turn consecutively in a first circling direction and second direction circling where the plurality of sensor elements detect contact in turn consecutively in a second circling direction opposite to the first circling direction.
