A yeast food for animals, cattle especially, is made by growing yeast, especially a torula yeast, in a medium comprising firstly a primary residual liquid, exemplified by spent wash of grain distillation and by whey, and an auxiliary residual liquid from a manufacture different from that which yielded the primary residual liquid, such auxiliary liquid supplying yeast nutrients not supplied by the primary residual liquid, and being exemplified by the liquid remaining on glutanic acid production from sugar beet molasses residues. A feed so produced is of composition: moisture 6%, protein 35.5%, betaine 6%, lactose 14%, lactic acid 1.6%, mineral substances 16%, fatty substances 4%, cellulose nil, other non-nitrogenous substances 38%. The feed may be mixed with meal, oilcake, sugar or fat. |
