The motor casing 13 of a routing machine has external square or 29-degree threads 14 on which a threaded ring 55 is adjustable to set the protrusion of a tool 24 below a workengaging surface 30. To set the protrusion, the casing 13 is raised in. the support housing 40 and locked in position by a lever 53 which is close to one hand grip 37 and rotates a threaded stud to move a sliding block into engagement with the casing. A graduated slide 60 having a bent-over end 62 is then raised to show the required protrusion against an index mark 65 and a deformed spring end on the slide holds it frictionally in position. The ring 55 is screwed down until it just engages the bentover end 62 and the lever 53 is operated to release the lock so that the casing 13 drops in the housing until it engages the top of the housing, the slide 60 being thus returned to its original position. Finally, lever 53 is operated to lock the casing and support with the tool protruding to give the required depth of cut. Graduations may be provided on the ring 55 and co-operate with an index mark 64 to give a vernier adjustment. A pin on the casing engages a slot in the housing to prevent relative rotation and a fan draws in air through passages 18 and exhausts it through passages 20.</p> |
