<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multiferroic element which induces an electric current by an external magnetic field, controls the intensity and direction of electric polarization by the external magnetic field, also controls the intensity and direction of magnetization induced by the external electric field, and operates at the operating environment temperature of room temperature by an M (magnetoplumbite)-type ferrite magnet that has been already produced in the market in large quantities. <P>SOLUTION: An electric current is induced by allowing an external magnetic field to act at the operating environment temperature of room temperature by a multiferroic solid material comprising an M (magnetoplumbite)-type ferrite and possessing ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism at the same time. For example, the multiferroic element has a structure comprising a multiferroic solid material 1 with the Sc concentration x of a BaFe<SB>12-x-δ</SB>Sc<SB>x</SB>Mg<SB>δ</SB>O<SB>19</SB>(δ=0.05) crystal material of 1.6 to 2 and a metal electrode 2 formed to interpose the same. The multiferroic element is arranged in such a manner as to apply an alternating-current magnetic field 5 in parallel to the metal electrode 2, and uses the electric current induced between the metal electrodes 2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
