MODIFIED YEAST STRAINS EXHIBITING ENHANCED FERMENTATION OF LIGNOCELLULOSIC HYDROLYSATES

A modified Saccharomyces strain Y108-1 (ATCC Deposit No. PTA-10567) having an enhanced ability to ferment xylose when compared to the parental strain, and method using said modified strain to co-ferment xylose and glucose in a lignocellulosic hydrolysate for the production of fermentation products, such as an alcohol or a sugar alcohol, are demonstrated.
