<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor light source device which has a simple configuration, wherein a semiconductor light-emitting element is prevented from malfunctioning due to its short-circuit and the semiconductor light-emitting element is efficiently cooled to brightly emit light; and to provide a projector including the semiconductor light source device. <P>SOLUTION: The projector includes a light source unit having the semiconductor light source device, a display element, a projector control means, etc. The semiconductor light source device includes a thermal diffusion plate 122, the semiconductor light-emitting element arranged on one surface of the thermal diffusion plate 122, a thermoelectric element arranged on the other surface of the thermal diffusion plate 122, and a heat sink 130.
