PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide portable electronic equipment which prevents a user from being late for recognizing the arrival of a telephone call and can protect the ears of the user. SOLUTION: A mobile phone 1 includes a first casing 2; an ultrasonic wave generating section 20 disposed in the first casing 2; an ultrasonic distance sensor 16, capable of detecting a position with respect to a target, by detecting a reflection wave obtained by reflecting an ultrasonic wave emitted from the ultrasonic wave generating section 20 on a target 18; a speaker 12 for outputting call arrival tones; and a control section 57. When there is a call arrival, the control section 57 causes the ultrasonic wave generating section 20 to generate an ultrasonic wave and when it is determined from a detected value in the ultrasonic distance sensor 16 that the target 18 is separated by a fixed distance or larger, the call arrival tones are output at a set sound volume; when it is determined from the detected value in the ultrasonic distance sensor 16 that the target 18 lies within the fixed distance, the call arrival tones are output at a sound volume which is lower than the set sound volume; and thereafter, the sound volume of the call arrival tones is gradually increased to the set sound volume.
