PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intercom system that enables a user to speedily answer to a visitor even if not being at home. SOLUTION: The intercom system comprises a door phone slave unit 2 installed, for example, near a front door, an intercom master unit 1 installed indoors and configured for speech communication with the door phone slave unit 2, and a transfer device 3 connected to the intercom master unit 1 through a communication line to send and receive audio signals and video signals to and from a mobile speech communication terminal 6 through a wide-area communication network WAN. The transfer device 3 transmits a call notification message to a mobile speech communication terminal 6 in response to a call from the door phone slave unit 2, and connects the slave unit 2 to the mobile speech communication terminal 6 once the mobile speech communication terminal 6 is operated in response. While the slave unit 2 and the mobile speech communication terminal 6 are connected to each other, the transfer device 3 makes the slave unit 2 output a preset connection standby tone to inform the visitor that the resident is called.
