Disclosed is a communications system, comprising a plurality of packet transfer devices and a control device that controls each respective packet transfer device, the communications system being capable of organizing communications networks that are employed in packet transfers by respective packet transfer devices and communications networks that are employed by a control device to control each respective packet transfer device into a single type of communications network. A control device (80) sends a request for response to a packet transfer device. Upon receipt of a request for response, a packet transfer device (90) transmits the request for response via a port other than the port whereby the request for response was received. Upon receipt of the request for response, the packet transfer device (90) returns a response including port information of the packet transfer device thereof along the route to the control device. The control device (80) generates topology information including port connection information between each respective port upon the control device and each respective packet transfer device, on the basis of the responses that are transmitted from each respective packet transfer device. |
