PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for producing a filament-reinforced thermoplastic resin strand excellent in reinforcing fiber dispersibility by making a reinforcing fiber bundle be well impregnated with a thermoplastic resin when the strand is produced. SOLUTION: The apparatus for producing the filament-reinforced thermoplastic resin strand has a first resin tank for storing a first thermoplastic resin 7b to be applied to the impregnation of the reinforcing fiber bundle 2 in a molten state and a second resin tank for storing a second resin 7a which is applied to impregnation in advance of the impregnation in the first resin tank and whose melt viscosity is set to be lower than that of the first resin 7b in a molten state. The first resin tank and the second resin tank are separated from each other by a wall 20, which includes an extraction opening 21 for extracting the reinforcing fiber bundle 2 from the second resin tank to the first resin tank. By extracting the reinforcing fiber bundle 2 from the second resin tank to the first resin tank through the extraction opening 21, the reinforcing fiber bundle 2 impregnated with the second resin 7a is impregnated with the first resin 7b.
