PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently generate a discharge only in a work direction, suppress a part of an object to be worked which is molten and removed to a minimum, improve a yield and stably feed a current. SOLUTION: A wire 10 for discharge machining includes, on the surface of the wire, one discharge area A continuous in the longitudinal direction of the wire in the same position of a peripheral edge in section of the wire, two non-discharge areas B continuous in the longitudinal direction of the wire in both sides of the discharge area A in the circumferential direction, and a feeding area C separated from the discharge area A by the non-discharge areas B and continuous in the longitudinal direction of the wire in a linear symmetrical arrangement with respect to a symmetrical axis S passing the discharge area A and the feeding area C in the section of the wire.
