PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microscope system that saves energy by detecting whether a user is carrying out observation with a microscope or not, controlling the brightness of a monitor according to the detection result, and suppressing power consumption. SOLUTION: The microscope system 1 includes: a face detecting means 12 that has a microscope controller 30 with an operating section for operating a plurality of electric devices attached to the microscope device 10, and with a display section for displaying an image of a camera attached to the microscope 10, and that detects the presence or absence of a face near the microscope; and a control means 15 that controls the brightness of the display section by determining the presence or absence of a face near the microscope based on a signal from the face detecting means 12.
