<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system having improved frontal brightness without narrowing a horizontal viewing angle by shielding the images of optical deflection elements. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting system 3 includes a light source 9, a light guide body 10 having an optical deflection surface 11 on which the optical deflection elements 12 are arranged, and a shielding structure 14 for transmitting light emitted from the light guide body and shielding the images of the optical deflection elements 12. The light guide body 10 has the optical deflection elements 12 arrayed at first and second pitches in first and second directions perpendicular to each other. The shielding structure 14 has a first linear lens 16 as a convex lenticular lens. The direction where the first linear lens 16 extends is approximately parallel to the first direction of the optical deflection elements.
