<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To comfortably perform jump retrieval processing desired by a user with an excellent operability even when either a dictionary information display screen or a text viewer screen is used, in an electronic dictionary device. <P>SOLUTION: A jump mode icon BJ consisting of: a [last time dictionary] icon for allowing the dictionary of a jump retrieval destination of a retrieval character string designated and displayed h on respective screens Gv to be the dictionary used last time; a [dictionary selection] icon for allowing the jump retrieval destination dictionary to be the dictionary selected by the user; and a [small dictionary] icon Bm"H" for allowing the jump retrieval destination dictionary to be a condensed dictionary, is displayed on a main screen 17 and a sub-screen 16 in the state where a dictionary information display screen Gv is displayed on the main screen 17 or displayed only on the sub-screen 16 in the state where a book/text viewer screen Gv is displayed on the main screen 17.
