PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric compressor used in a vapor compression type refrigerating machine using a water refrigerant, capable of suppressing increase of windage loss of a motor, and properly keeping a blocking state of a refrigerating cycle system including the compressor and the external, and to provide the vapor compression type refrigerating machine using the same. SOLUTION: The electric compressor 1 includes the compressor 1A for compressing and discharging water vapor as a refrigerant gas supplied from an evaporator through refrigerant piping 31, and the motor 1B driving the compressor 1A, and constituted to allow a part of the water vapor flowing in the refrigerant piping 31 to flow therein through piping 31a connected to the refrigerant piping 31, and the motor 1B and the compressor 1A are integrated so that the water vapor flowing inside of the motor 1B can be circulated to the inside of the compressor 1A from the inside of the motor 1B, and a pressure less than an atmospheric pressure is kept in an air-tight state where the inside of the motor 1B and the inside of the compressor 1A are blocked from the external.
