摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for estimating physical quantity, capable of compensating a continuous output and besides also expressing a transient behavior. SOLUTION: The device 1 for estimating a physical quantity estimates a certain physical quantity for expressing the state of an engine or the states of an intake and exhaust system and combustion chamber of the engine, based on an output y of a neural network. The neural network is made up of a linear coupling of a plurality of moving radius basis functions h<SB>i</SB>(i=1 to M) which have components (u<SB>1</SB>, u<SB>2</SB>, ..., u<SB>N</SB>) of an input parameter vector u defined as a basis and are arranged within a space. A central position vector t<SB>i</SB>(i=1 to M) in each of M pieces of the moving radius basis functions h<SB>i</SB>within the space of the input parameter vector is determined by means of a self-organizing clustering method.
