PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for production of an aromatic polyester with scarcely any coloration even after heat molding at elevated temperatures and not only maintaining extremely high transparency but also accompanied with high fluidity the same. SOLUTION: The process for production of the aromatic polyester by a reaction of (i) a polyhydric phenol and an aromatic polycarboxylic acid, a halogenide or an anhydride of the same, wherein 0-40 mol% of a compound shown by formula (II): X-C(O)-R is caused to react to the total changed amount of the aromatic polycarboxylic acid, the halogenide or the anhydride of the same, wherein X represents chlorine, bromine or iodine and R represents a group of an aliphatic group, an alicyclic group, a monocyclic aromatic group, a polycyclic aromatic group, a fused aromatic group, a heterocyclic group, or a combination of the same with a proviso at least one hydrogen of the same shall be replaced with fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, an alkoxyl group, a mercapto group, a sulfenato group, a sulfinato group, a sulfo group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an acyl group, an alkoxysulfinyl group, an alkylthiocarbonyl group, a thiosulfo group, a cyano group, a thiocyano group, an isocyano group, an isocyanoto group, an isothiocyanato group or a nitro group, and (ii) a further reaction of the obtained aromatic polycarboxylic and 3-80 mol% of the compound shown by formula (II) to the total charged amount of (i) the aromatic polycarboxylic acid, the halogenide or the anhydride of the same.
