<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome the problems that also a time for measuring the whole patch chart becomes long because it is necessary to take a long time for measurement in order to stably converge random noise to nearly zero when measuring a patch by a sensor, and that a total measurement time for measuring the whole patch chart becomes long as a result of that a measurement time per patch is matched with a time that enables the darkest patch to be stably measured in the case of measuring scanning the patch chart by a sensor. <P>SOLUTION: A measurement speed is controlled for every patch so that the measurement speed for a patch low in optical density and the measurement speed for a patch high in optical density become fast and slow, respectively. Control information for a sensor is formed, and control of the sensor is performed using the control information at measuring with the sensor which measures while keeping the measurement speed constant.
