PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microphone unit capable of switching directional characteristics either to bidirectional characteristics or to unidirectional characteristics. SOLUTION: A differential microphone unit 100 (microphone unit) includes: a cover unit 30 (substrate 10) in which a vibrating section 11 that is vibrated by sound pressure is disposed and sound paths A1 and A2 (A3) connected to the side of an arrow Z2 direction and the side of an arrow Z1 direction of the vibrating section 11 are provided, respectively; and a sound path switching section 34 for switching the sound path into a state where a length of the sound path A1 connected to the side of the arrow Z2 direction of the vibrating section 11 is approximately equal to a length of the sound path A2 connected to the side of the arrow Z1 direction of the vibrating section 11, and into a state where a length of the sound path A3 connected to the side of the arrow Z1 direction of the vibrating section 11 becomes longer than the length of the sound path A1 connected to the side of the arrow Z2 direction of the vibrating section 11.
