[Also in Group XI] In a photographic contact printing apparatus wherein tubular lamps 40 are housed in a rotatable transparent or translucent cylinder 6 journalled in end supports 4, the lamps are mounted in a cluster on a plurality of supports slidable on a guide carried by one or both end supports so that they can be moved bodily with the supports through the end of the cylinder 6 for servicing. As shown, the cylinder 6, which may be glass or plastic, is fixed to one end of a roller blind 10, and the tubular lamps 40 are supported at their ends by plates 34, 38 fixed to a tube 32 which is slidable over a rod 30 carried by a cross strap screwed to one end support 4. The plate 34 is apertured to receive the adjacent end caps of the lamps and the plate 38 is peripherally notched and provided with detachable coil springs 44 to loop over and retain the opposite end caps. The end of the tube 32 adjacent the plate 38 has an extension 46 carrying a stand member 48 which, with the plate 34, provides for standing of the lamp assembly when retracted from the cylinder 6. In an alternative arrangement, Fig. 3, to prevent undue temperature rise inside the cylinder 6, a longitudinal gap 60 is provided in the cylinder wall and a baffle 62 rotatable with the cylinder extends radially inwardly, centrally of the gap to co-operate with a radial baffle 70, fixed to a guide rail 66 carried by end support gratings 4, to produce an air flow as indicated by the arrows. In this case the lamp support assembly has a longitudinal angle member 64 to co-operate with the guide rail 66, the rod guide 30 being dispensed with and the tube 32 being perforated to enhance the cooling effect and also, when earthed, to assist starting of tubular discharge lamps. |
