PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bookbinding system which can make available a book with satisfactory strength and sophisticated impression at a low cost and further, the book which becomes spread flat when opened. SOLUTION: The bookbinding system includes: a folding step to manufacture a printed book consisting of a plurality of sheets of paper by folding printed matter a plurality of times; a gathering step to pile up a plurality of copies of the printed book processed through the folding step and align the piled copies in a row; a thread stitching step to stitch the throat part of each paper piece of the printed book processed through the gathering step, using a thread; a trimming step to cut the marginal part of the printed book processed through the thread stitching step; a spine forming step to attach a cold gauze with a rather larger width size than the bundle size of the spine part, to the spine part of the printed book processed through the trimming step, through an adhesive, and further, attach a crimped paper with almost the same width size as the bundle size of the spine part to the upper surface of the cold gauze, through an adhesive; a fluting step to flute the cover to the bundle size of the spine part of the printed book; and a cover attaching step to entirely bond the inside of cover page and the cover of the printed book together in a state that the cover does not adhere to the spine part of the printed book.
