<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a twisted alignment mode liquid crystal display device improved in viewing angle characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: The twisted alignment mode liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal cell 10 in a twisted alignment mode, optical anisotropic laminates 12, 12' comprising, from an symmetric order about the liquid crystal cell 10, at least optical anisotropic layers A (6, 6'), B (7, 7') and C (8, 8'), and polarizing films 4, 5. The optical anisotropic layers A and B contain a rod-like liquid crystal fixed in an oblique alignment state and have an in-plane retardation of 0 to 200 nm at a wavelength of 550 nm. The optical anisotropic layer C has an in-plane retardation of 0 to 350 nm and -50 to 300 nm in a thickness direction. The in-plane slow phase axis of the optical anisotropic layer C is parallel or orthogonal to the absorption axis of the polarizing film; the in-plane slow phase axes of the optical anisotropic layer A and of the optical anisotropic layer B are orthogonal to each other; and the slow phase axis of the optical anisotropic layer A and the optical axis on a cell substrate, both projected onto the same plane, forms an angle of 45°. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
