PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a boom easy to work besides dispersing stress of an outer case member. SOLUTION: The boom includes the outer case member 17 having a columnar space; an inner case member 18 telescopically inserted in the columnar space; and sliding members 2 mounted to the rear part of the inner case member 18 and brought into sliding contact with the inner surface of the outer case member 17. The boom is formed with swash plate sections 174 by bending both ends of an upper plate part 171 in the cross section of the outer case member 17, and the sliding members 2 come in sliding contact with parts 174a, 174a close to the bent parts of the swash plate sections 174.
