<p>The embodiments of the invention disclose an Internet Protocol (IP) address auto-configuration method, a server device, a client and a communication system. The method includes steps: determining a client with a formal IP address within the communication range which a client to be configured with a formal IP address belongs to, wherein, the formal IP address is a configured IP address; transmitting a relay configuration indication message to the client with a formal IP address, wherein, the relay configuration indication message carries Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) configuration information; after the client with a formal IP address configures itself as a DHCP relay according to the DHCP configuration information, assigning a formal IP address to the client to be configured with a formal IP address by the client which has been configured as a DHCP relay. With the embodiments of the invention, the setting of a dedicated DHCP relay is not necessary when an IP address is configured automatically with DHCP, and the system investment and maintenance cost are decreased.</p> |
