Dimensions of the plate are large and are selected in such a manner that plate edges (8) reflected on a web material (9) lie outside of a mark region (7) to be detected. A light protection unit (5) is attached at the edges of plate, and a light (6) is arranged within the light protection unit. A surface of the plate and a surface area of the protection unit comprise diffusively reflecting white color.
