PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image capturing apparatus that can alleviate the discontinuity of blur correction and stably correct blur, and to provide a method of controlling the same. SOLUTION: The image capturing apparatus includes: an image memory 110 for storing the image signal of a subject image that is formed by an imaging optical system 12; a motion vector detection circuit 106 for detecting a motion vector value as a changing quantity from an image signal to an image; a reading control circuit 109 for controlling the reading position of the image signal from the image memory 110 on the basis of the motion vector value; a reliability decision circuit 121 for determining the reliability of the motion vector value obtained by the motion vector detection circuit 106; and an interpolation processing circuit 122 for interpolating the motion vector according to the decision results by the reliability decision circuit 121, and it uses the interpolated motion vector value to correct the image blur of the image signal.
