A handover preparation method for a communication system, a Relay Node (RN) and a communication system are provided by the embodiments of the invention. The method includes: a communication node receives a handover request message, wherein the handover request message carries identifiers of cells in a set of cells under the node, and the set of cells includes at least two cells (101); if a cell in the set of cells under the node accepts the handover request (102); the communication node sends an acknowledgement message of the handover request, wherein the acknowledgement message of the handover request carries the identifier of the cell which accepts the handover request (103). The invention reduces signaling overhead during the handover process.
