<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor driving device, wherein a failure can be detected without having an overcurrent pass, and to provide an electric power steering device which uses the same. <P>SOLUTION: Prior to starting normal PWM control, a control unit 50 of the motor driving device 1 detects short-circuit failure in MOSs 21 to 26 themselves, based on a terminal voltage and a PIG1 voltage. When a short-circuit failure is not detected in the MOSs 21 to 26 themselves, a short-circuit failure is detected in a pre-driver 52 that is unable to bring the MOSs 21 to 26 into conduction, based on the terminal voltage and PIG1 voltage obtained, when at least one of the MOSs 21 to 26 is turned on; and all the MOSs 21 to 26 are off-controlled. As a result, formation of a path through which a current flows from the upper MOSs 21 to 23 to the lower MOSs 24 to 26 paired therewith is detected, and it is possible to detect short-circuit failures in a pre-driver 52 without having an overcurrent flow and prevent burnout of the inverter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
