<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guidewire having high safety and improved flexibility and rotation followability, and capable of directing a catheter with ease. <P>SOLUTION: The guidewire 10 has an inner coil 50 that surrounds a distal side portion of a core shaft 14, and an outer coil 60 that surrounds the inner coil 50 and the distal side portion of the core shaft 14. The core shaft 14 has a second flat part 44 in flattened shape in contact with an inner peripheral surface of the inner coil 50. With this configuration, the distal side portion of the guidewire is protected by a double coil structure, while having high torsional stiffness.
