PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element with which a dead space between micro-mirrors for image-forming an aerial image is effectively utilized, and to provide a display system equipped with the optical element. SOLUTION: The optical element X includes a first region S1 and a second region S2 having different light reflection characteristics. In the first region S1, mirror reflection of light on one or more reflection faces arranged in a standing condition with respect to an element surface S occurs; and in the second region S2, irregular reflection of light on a reflection face parallel to the element surface S occurs.
