PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus reading data from an imaging device, in order to efficiently generate a live view image, without impairing the advantage of having an optical system provided with a lens array constituted of a microlens group. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes a lens array in which a plurality of lenses are regularly arranged on a single plane, and a photoelectric conversion unit, including a plurality of photoelectric conversion areas, with each being constituted of a plurality of pixels and provided on a single plane according to an irradiation range of transmission light from the respective lenses of the lens array. The photoelectric conversion unit includes a first mode for continuously reading data from all pixels included in the photoelectric conversion areas, and at least one second mode of selecting some pixels, whose positions relatively match to the respective lenses from the respective photoelectric conversion areas, making a pixel array, after the selection possible to generate a color image, and continuously reading data from the selected pixels.
