PURPOSE: A sintered body for a cutting tool and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to substitute the sintered body for WC-Co based cemented carbide by improving toughness. CONSTITUTION: A sintered body for a cutting tool comprises hard phase powder and metal powder. The hard phase powder is composed of the carbide of metal and nitride or carbon nitride. The metal powder couples the hard phase powder. The average granularity of the hard phase powder is 0.5~3 micrometers. One or more coating layers are formed on the surface of the sintered body.
