<p>A system and apparatus (200) relates to a system and apparatus for accurate and secure dispensing of products using an automated dispensing machine, and transmission, processing and analysis of data concerning items dispensed. In one embodiment the system provides the possibility of combined pharmaceutical supply chain management and medication treatment compliance management. More particularly, in one embodiment the present invention may be applied to controlled dispensing of medications, automated replenishment of medications, managing correct dosage and time intervals for patient prescriptions, enabling incentives to encourage higher patient treatment compliance, recording and processing of patient and health care data relating to consumption of medication and related information such as safety, efficacy, patient attitudes and behaviour. The embodiment features a plurality of product dispensing mechanisms (210) referred to as the "Hold/Release" mechanism which has the benefits of high reliability, long service life and low probability of malfunction, and features an integrated RFID antenna (240), which is utilised to ensure the correct product is loaded into the dispenser, resulting in high accuracy of dispensing and inventory management benefits. Dispensing of products only occurs once a set of conditions is satisfied, for example a code corresponding to an electronically entered prescription is entered into a keypad, or an RFID Tagged prescription document is presented to an RFID reader antenna connected to System 200. A Patient ID tag, Healthcare workers ID Tag or other RFID Tagged items can be placed on an RFID antenna connected to System 200 in order to trigger a "transaction". The details are sent to a central server for processing. This process allows for automatic replenishment of medications to the RFID equipped medication storage enclosure at the healthcare site. It also allows for complete logging of data relating to which patient has received the correct dosage at what time, by whom this medication was administered, and correlation with other possible RFID tagged documents.</p> |
