904,937. Magnetic structures. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. March 22, 1961 [March 28, 1960], No. 10449/61. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XXXVI] A permalloy film coating is formed on a substrate by coating the substrate with a smooth metal coating, preferably of gold or other noble metal of thickness 100‹ to 250‹ A, and then depositing thereon electrolytically and in a magnetic field applied parallel to the substrate surface, the Ni/Fe permalloy film of about 1000‹ A. The resulting film has an anisotropic axis of easy magnetization with a square hysteresis loop and a perpendicular axis of hard magnetization with no opening in the loop for low drives. The relation between the thickness of the gold and permalloy films with the magnetic properties of the permalloy film are described with hysteresis diagrams. |
