PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disk substrate of a magnetic recording medium, which has as less defects as required for a disk medium of a density of 500 Gb/in<SP>2</SP>or above and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: On a non-magnetic disk substrate 1 made of an Al alloy, a first NiP layer 2, an intermediate layer 3 made of either Au or Pd, and a second NiP layer 4 are formed in this order.
