PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a region where an image is to be recorded on a display medium prior to recording the image in the display medium, the image showing a region responding to a position indicated by an operator. SOLUTION: A recording device includes a light irradiating unit irradiating a display medium with two types of light. The recording device controls a voltage application unit so as not to apply a voltage to the optical recording type display medium and controls the light irradiating unit so as to irradiate the display medium with a first type of light that transmits through the display medium in accordance with a position signal acquired from a position detection device. Subsequently, the recording device controls the voltage application unit to apply a voltage and controls the light irradiating unit to irradiate the display medium with a second type of light so as to record the image in the display medium in accordance with the position signal stored in a memory unit.
