PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modified copolymer with balanced improvement in low fuel consumption and wet grip performance of a rubber composition and also improvement of wet grip performance of a tire when used as a raw material of the rubber composition and the pneumatic tire, and the rubber composition and the pneumatic tire using the modified copolymer. SOLUTION: The modified copolymer is obtained by modifying a copolymer obtained by copolymerizing at least one of styrene and 1,3-butadiene with alkoxystyrene. The modification is performed on at least one of the terminal of the copolymer using a modifier. The modifier has a functional group including at least one atom selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen, and silicon.
