PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problems: if just one operation fails, the effects of all operations in the group, regardless of the number of operations associated with the transaction, are "undone" or rolled back, and eventually the transaction-processing system reaches one of two states whereby either all of the operations have been applied or none of the operations have been applied. SOLUTION: A system to perform transacted remote file operations over a network includes a client and a server. The client and server each include a transaction manager and a file system. The client also includes a redirector (RDR), while the server includes a server application. The RDR receives a request for a remote transacted file operation.
