PURPOSE: An automatic control device of a burner by detecting a cooking container of an electric range and a method thereof are provided to control the operation of a burner automatically and to display the operation of a burner to a user by judging the size and the existence of a container by a temperature difference between the center of a burner and the edge using temperature sensors, and to give warning to a user by sensing the overheating of a burner. CONSTITUTION: An automatic control device of a burner by detecting a cooking container of an electric range comprises: a key operation unit(132) operating a burner; an indication unit(133) displaying the selection state of the key operation and the operation state of each burner; a control unit having a cooking container put on the relevant burner to control the burners, sensing the temperature of the relevant heating element inputted from temperature sensors(101a~104c) of the relevant burner by selecting the operation of the burner by the key operation unit and figuring out the temperature difference of each temperature sensor, and then producing the size of the cooking container put on the burner, and controlling the operation of each heating element according to the produced result; a burner output unit controlling the on/off of the relevant heating element by controlling the operation of the control unit; a memory device unit storing the datum value for the temperature difference of the temperature sensors of the relevant burner to judge the existence and the size of the cooking container in the control unit, and then providing to the control unit; and a warning unit giving an alarm if the overheating of food in the cooking container by the control unit while the relevant burner is operating.
