A pipe element (1) comprises a trimmed edge welded onto a carrier. The trimmed edge includes cams (15,20) with which the pipe element is placed on a surface of the carrier, so that air gap is formed between the surface of carrier and trimmed edge in regions (30-32) between the cams. An independent claim is included for method for fabricating component.
