In a container 2 for sterilizing surgical dressings, cloths, medical instruments or the like and for keeping them in a sterile condition, having a bottom 1 and a cover 8 with apertures 6, 11 respectively therein on which filter cloths 14 are clamped by means of holders, at least one holder is adapted to be clamped tightly upon the corresponding surface which is covered with a filter cloth by means of only one securing means provided at the centre of the holder. As shown, the holder consists of a frame 15 and a clamping member which consists of two straps of leaf springs or rigid material 16, 161 crossing each other at right angles and welded at their points of engagement, the outer ends 20, 201 of the straps 16, 161 being bent over to grip the frame 15 on the outside and to secure the straps to the frame by a clamping action. At the centre of the straps 16, 161 there is provided a bore 17 which passes therethrough and in which a nut 18 is firmly secured but in a manner so as to be rotatable therein, for example by being flanged around the wall of bore 17, a nut 18 is provided with inner screw-threads corresponding to the outer screw-threads 71 on the stud 7 and secured to the bottom 1 of the container. To clamp a filter cloth 14 on the bottom 1 and cover 8, the cloth is first placed upon the part 5 or 10, respectively and the holder 15, 16, 161 is placed upon the filter cloth so that the threaded bore 181 of nut 18 is disposed directly above the stud 71 and on pressing nut 18 against the spring action of straps 16 and 161 toward stud 7 and screwing upon the stud, the inner edge of frame 15 is pressed by straps 16 and 161 firmly so that the filter cloth 14 will be tightly clamped over the raised parts 5 or 10, respectively. Thus, the perforated part of bottom 1 or cover 8 containing the apertures 6 or 11, respectively, will be properly sealed by means of only a single securing element 18. Any other suitable securing means may be used, for example the holder may be provided with a bolt which is secured thereto so as not to be lost but slidable relative thereto so as to engage into a corresponding recess in stud 7 or 13. The securing means may also consist of a bayonet lock, a lever lock or the like.
