The invention relates to an electronic device storing an object. The electronic device is set to protect access to the object with a public key by requesting a proof of possession of the corresponding private key. It is also set to associate a counter with the object, to update the counter for each failed proof of possession, and to trigger a security countermeasure if the number of failed proofs of possession exceeds a predefined threshold. The invention also relates to a method for protecting access to an object stored in an electronic device.
