A system and method for monitoring the relative movement between two bodies, such as between a door 102 and its frame 104 or a tool and a work piece. The system comprises at least one wireless tag 40, such as radio frequency identification (RFID), magnetic or barcode tags, attached to the first body, a reader, detector or sensor 10 attached to the second body and a processor that derives information regarding the relative movement between the first body and the second body based upon a variable response produced by the reader dependent upon the distance between the reader and the tag. The processor can determine the relative position or speed of the bodies based on the information from the tags. For example the system is used to monitor the performance of an automatic train door. |
