PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for producing molten metal are provided to reduce the generation rate of carbon dioxide by completely eliminating carbon dioxide before sintered ore is input into a blast furnace. CONSTITUTION: A method for producing molten metal is as follows. Sintered ore is prepared. A reduction furnace(110) receives the sintered ore from a sintered ore feeder and reduces the sintered ore. A reduction gas feeder(120) supplies reduction gas to the reduction furnace. Molten metal is produced by supplying the reduced sintered ore from the reduction furnace to a molten metal producing furnace(140).
