A process of producing smoke filters from a sliver of long natural fibres such as hemp, flax or jute comprises the steps of bleaching, drying and sterilizing the sliver, subjecting it to a second drying and to an operation to open the fibres and spread them apart, and then wrapping the sliver in paper to form a rod which is subsequently subdivided. The bleaching is effected by hydrogen peroxide and the sterilization by heating the sliver in an autoclave at 100 DEG C. for about four hours. |
