PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid ejection apparatus which can suppress generation of printing defects caused by smudging of a nozzle formation face of a liquid ejection head. SOLUTION: The liquid ejection apparatus is equipped with a recording head 19 which ejects ink to a recording paper from ink nozzles 20 formed in the nozzle formation face 19a, a cap 24 (and a wiper member 35) freely movable between a position where it contacts to the nozzle formation face 19a of the recording head 19 and a separated position, and a cleaning device 40 which can emit a cleaning liquid from a cleaning liquid nozzle 44a towards a cleaning object while a contact part to at least the nozzle formation face 19a in the cap 24 (and wiper member 35) is made the cleaning object when the cap 24 (and wiper member 35) is present at the separated position from the nozzle formation face 19a.
