PURPOSE: Device and method for measuring crop in a hot endless rolling process are provided to measure the length of crop by taking images of crop due to overlapping of a leading material and a following material and detecting the shapes of the leading material, the following material and the crop from the images. CONSTITUTION: An image taking unit(101) takes images of crop due to overlapping of a leading material and a following material and generates an image signal. An image collecting unit(102) transfers a signal introduced by the entry of the following material to the image taking unit to operate the image taking unit. The image collecting unit converts the image signal to an image and stores it as a moving picture file. A detecting unit(103) selects an optimal image from the moving picture file and detects the shapes of the leading material, the following material and the crop from the optimal image.
